Who would have thought that we had out Burmuda triangle in the Sacandaga?
It all started on a night dive on a Friday night in June. Some club members were taking an advanced course. They were by the Conklinville Dam. After a short surface swim Emmett discovered that his mask had fallen off and sunk to the bottom. Barb lost one of her weights.Vance got a bloody nose that did not stop for over a half hour.
Fast Forward 2 weeks. Club members Emmett, Steve, Barb, Vance, and Paul return to the Dam to look for the lost equipment.
Paul got separated right away as the others quickly swam out in search of the mask. Paul went to the area that the weight was lost to search for that. Meanwhile the rest of the divers were searching for the mask. A baseball hat was found and then lost. A boat anchor was found by Steve. Why he kept it is still not known today. He has no boat!!!
The divers meet back at the entry point. Paul proudly showed off his find. A Firecracker Sausage still in the wrapper. This was christened the "CELEBRATORY SAUSAGE".
Barb and Steve went back out in search of the weight. The rest of the divers exited the water and prepared to do battle with flying biting bugs by the thousands.
Barb and Steve returned when Barb exclaimed that she had lost yet another weight. This time an ankle weight.
Again Fast Forward a few weeks when club members go back to the Dam.
This time there are more divers. Before we get into the water Barb finds her ankle weight. It was high and dry laying by a rock that a few weeks prior was underwater.
We broke up into 2 groups. One went looking for the mask and the other the lost weight. No evidence of either was found.
Is it the work of an equipment vortex? Or did other divers find the mask and weight? We may never know!!
