St Lawrence 2006

The club goes to the St. Lawrence River.

It was a beautiful weekend late in July 06 as 10 club members traveled north from Fulton County to the St. Lawrence River and the resort town of Alexandria Bay.

The Otter Creek Inn was our home away from home for the weekend. This motel has docks right on the water so the dive charter agreed to pick us up right at the dock. The center of town was with in walking distance so we parked our cars for the weekend.

Our charter boat for Saturday was the 2 DIVE 4 and Thousand Island Dive Excursions (T.I.D.E.) With Captain Ken Kozin. Early morning we heading down river to the Wreck of the Keystorm. The Keystorm sank in 1912 on Outer Scow Shoal where it lies today on her Starboard side. Her depth is 25 to 100 feet. There were two mooring buoys to guide divers to the wreck.

The second wreck we dived on was the America, which was a drilling barge that was blown up by her own dynamite. This wreck lies in about 70 feet of water in the shipping channel, out in front of Dark Island.

The water was 75 degrees all the way to the bottom. The visibility was about 30 to 35 feet? The weather was just great.

If you want to go diving in the Alexandria Bay area, I recommend staying at the Otter Creek Inn. They like divers. It is right on the water. If you have a boat they have a launch right there. If you don’t have a boat I recommend T.I.D.E. for a charter that likes divers. Check out their website. http://www.divetide.com/

They will pick you up right at he motel. There are lots of wrecks in the area.

The club members that went all agree that it was a wonderful weekend on the St. Lawrence River.
