The Crane

Located about 28 miles out from Tarpon Springs FL is a strange wreck, an old crane. Laying on it's side in 50 feet of water, the boom lays across the bottom. There is no associated hull so I assume that it must have fallen off a barge in a storm. The machinery section looks to be encircled in a 25-30 foot diameter ring of track, jutting up from the bottom at an angle and rising 20 feet. Sponges and soft corals encrust the structure and schools of scad so think they darken the wreck envelope the machinery section. It was so dark we thought a cloud had come up. Spanish Mackerel hover about awaiting a meal. In a compact space there is a lot to see.

We took Narcosis Scuba to the site.
